Fishers Island Birds

The HLFM is maintaining a list of Annual Reported Bird Sightings on Fishers Island and its surrounding waters.

In 2023, there was a total of  208 species checked off.

Of those, 10 were new to our overall species list. Two new historical sightings were also added. That list now contains 265 species. The data are collected by a group of knowledgeable Fishers Islanders. Knowledgeable visitors, eBird reports,  and Audubon Seasonal Bird Counts also provide additional data.

We would greatly appreciate your participation in our project. Please contact the museum by phone or email to begin receiving the monthly sighting report forms. At the end of each month, take a photo of your list and text or email it to the museum. Any sightings you can provide are welcome.

THE SKETCHBOOKS OF CHARLIE FERGUSON

In the full sweep of Fishers Island’s history, there is no artist more synonymous, more closely associated with Fishers Island than Charles B. “Charlie” Ferguson. The main show features images from two of Charlie's sketchbooks which functioned as illustrated diaries that were filled with daily activities, nature observations, personal notes, and lots of art—drawings, sketches, and watercolors—in various states of completion.
