15. Chocomount Hill Trail

Chocomount Hill Trail is an undulating shrubland trail winding up, down, and around a wetland basin. This trail was created in 2025.

Look for the trailhead off East End Road, across the street from the dirt road leading to Chocomount Beach. There is also a spoke of this trail that connects at Brooks Point Road. There is bike and car parking in the Chocomount Beach parking lot or on the side of Brooks Point Road. This trail is a complete 0.4 mi loop that returns to the starting point. We recommend starting with the left branch of the path and proceeding around the loop in a clockwise direction. To the north, the trail passes over the remains of one of Fishers’ cross-island stone walls—there were once seven! This wall runs through the property and across East End Road, picking up again on the other side of the street where it also bisects Chocomount Trail. Like the flagstone wall, crabapples and other orchard trees indicate the land was once farmed. Now, black cherry and tupelo characterize the site, along with American holly, highbush blueberry, and red cedar. Look and listen for tiny Golden-crowned Kinglets from late fall through early spring, when they depart for northern forests. Following the loop, you will eventually arrive at a splendid old red maple. This forest is also home to birds of prey—Barred Owls hunt the freshwater wetlands and thickets for small birds, rodents, snakes, and amphibians.
