Our region has some of the most beautiful coastal environments in the Northeast, but our shores and marine environments also face increasing challenges from urbanization, pollution, and climate change. This talk will look at the geology and biology of our coast and try to place our current challenges within the context of 20,000 years of major changes in our shoreline since it was formed at the end of the Ice Age.

Speaker Patrick J. Lynch has authored and illustrated eight books, and over 100 professional papers, magazine articles, and book chapters. In 2017 Yale University Press published his latest book, “A Field Guide to Long Island Sound,” a comprehensive guide to the environmental history, natural environments, plants, and animals of the Sound”. This book will be available at the book signing after the lecture.
