On the morning of June 7, 2022 the osprey nest at the end of Middle Farms came under a brief attack by another osprey.
The video clip below begins with the female osprey fortifying the nest, but she leaves around 7:47:51 and returns when another osprey flies near the nest (7:48:32). She shields the chicks with her wings then strikes at the attacker. The male returns immediately after to help safeguard the nest as the hovering attacker’s shadow can be seen in the background. The male soon leaves (possibly to chase it away) and the female also leaves the nest again briefly, but returns without further drama and resumes tending the nest.
We hope you have enjoyed this window into the world of osprey on Fishers Island.
In the full sweep of Fishers Island’s history, there is no artist more synonymous, more closely associated with Fishers Island than Charles B. “Charlie” Ferguson. The main show features images from two of Charlie's sketchbooks which functioned as illustrated diaries that were filled with daily activities, nature observations, personal notes, and lots of art—drawings, sketches, and watercolors—in various states of completion.
