Did you know that some invasive plants are easier to identify and remove during the fall? During this walk we will help you develop the practical skills required to improve the Fishers Island native landscape on your property!

Why Chocomount Hill Trail?

The HLFM Land Trust works diligently to remove invasive plants from their properties, but as a newer trail, it has not yet undergone the extensive invasive plant management that other trails have benefited from. This gives us a unique opportunity to find many species of invasive plants in one, short, easily accessed trail! We want to take advantage of this moment to share this experience with the Fishers Island community.

Our incredible guides have many years of experience removing invasive plants on Fishers Island. As they guide you through the Chocomount Hill Trail, they will:

  • Point out invasive plants
  • Describe how they identified them and distinguished them from native plants
  • Demonstrate what they would do when removing them
  • Provide the ideal timeline for the invasive plant’s removal

This event is organized by the Fishers Island Seagrass Management Coalition and sponsored by the Henry L. Ferguson Museum.

ANNUAL EXHIBITION 2023

Untitled
F.I. Sketchbook 2005

THE SKETCHBOOKS OF CHARLIE FERGUSON

In the full sweep of Fishers Island’s history, there is no artist more synonymous, more closely associated with Fishers Island than Charles B. “Charlie” Ferguson. The main show features images from two of Charlie's sketchbooks which functioned as illustrated diaries that were filled with daily activities, nature observations, personal notes, and lots of art—drawings, sketches, and watercolors—in various states of completion.
