An illustrated lecture by HLF Museum Director Pierce Rafferty.

Sunday, October 30, 2016

TIME: 4:30 P.M.
LOCATION: The Museum, 2nd Floor

Established in the late-19th and early-20th centuries, hotels on Fishers Island reached their peak by the mid-1910s when there were three grand hotels (all with associated cottages), one small medium-priced hotel, and one boarding house. By the late 1940s, only the boarding house and the small hotel—today’s Pequot Inn—remained active.

Pierce’s talk documents the beginnings of Fishers Island’s hotels, chronicling their expansive rise to a peak of more than 300 available rooms, followed by their precipitous decline to today’s count of zero.

Reception to follow.
