As an active partner and co-chair of the Fishers Island Seagrass Management (FISM) Coalition, the Museum is pleased to promote the dedicated work taking place to protect the Island’s seagrass. As such, we encourage islanders to read about the plan that FISM is developing to preserve and manage local seagrass beds by registering for an upcoming FISM webinar and completing the input survey. Details below.

The Fishers Island Seagrass Management Coalition is developing a plan to preserve and manage seagrass, a valuable but threatened marine resource that supports commercial and recreational fishing, ecosystem biodiversity and health, and the beauty of Fishers Island. And they need to hear from YOU! Here’s what you can do:

1. JOIN online webinars and Q&A sessions

Learn about the proposed Fishers Island Seagrass Management Plan and ask questions in an online forum. All are welcome! Registration for webinars is required:

Tuesday, August 17 from 5:00pm-6:00pm

Tuesday, August 24 from 5:00pm-6:00pm

2. FILL OUT our Public Input survey

Inform the Coalition on how to best protect seagrass meadows and the benefits they provide for people and wildlife, while still allowing traditional uses.

Receive $1 off at Toppers Ice Cream upon survey completion!

The deadline to complete the survey is Sept. 30th, 2021.

3. EMAIL US!

Your voice, interests, and input are crucial to the preservation and management of seagrass and the future of Fishers Island.

Comments on the proposed plan are due September 30th, 2021.

To register for a webinar, or submit comments by email, or if you have any questions regarding the FISM plan, please contact FISM Project Coordinator, Connor Jones, at [email protected].
