Osprey mom begins to feed their new chick as dad watches on June 1, 2025.

On May 31, 2025 the ospreycam at Middle Farms nest provided quick peeks at the first chick to hatch – 38 days after the first egg was laid on April 23rd. The day was very windy and rainy so mom kept the chick protected from the elements much of the time, and it wasn’t until the second day that she began to feed the chick.

The video clips below capture some of the nest activities during the first two days.

MAY 31: Shortly before 10 AM on May 31, 2025, we captured a couple of quick peeks at the first osprey chick.

MAY 31: Mom gets knocked over by wind while tending to the new chick and the remaining two eggs.

MAY 31: Mom removes the eggshell from below.

MAY 31: Mom is distressed by something nearby and suddenly leaves – providing a brief viewing of the chick.

MAY 31: In this extended clip, dad delivers fish for mom and receives the first viewing of his chick, but then he has to chase away another osprey. He returns soon after and watches over the chick for a while then leaves. Eventually mom returns with fish remains but she does not appear to feed the chick yet.

JUNE 1: After a brief trip away, mom returns to the nest and is harassed by grackle. Soon after, dad arrives to help.

JUNE 1: Dad delivers bark for the nest.

JUNE 1: Dad delivers fish and watches over the chick while mom leaves to eat – and he gets harasses by a grackle while she’s gone. Mom returns after about 5 minutes to start feeding the chick and then dad leaves, but he returns again after mom gets harassed by a grackle.
