Murray Fisher

Murray Fisher, founder of the New York Harbor School and Billion Oyster Project, and Director of the Museum’s new Fishers Island Nature Discovery (FIND) program, has launched an effort to observe, identify and catalog every species of organism on Fishers Island.

The project utilizes the iNaturalist platform and app to build a Fishers Island biodiversity database from crowd-sourced photographs of all our living organisms. On Thursday, August 29, the Museum’s special Biodiversity workshop, led by Murray Fisher, showed an eager group of citizen scientists how to use their cellphones to help create a record of all living things present on and around Fishers Island.

Your help is essential.

If you couldn’t make the workshop but want to contribute to the iNaturalist Biodiversity project on Fishers, I encourage you to download the iNaturalist app and find out more about the Fishers Island Biodiversity Project.
