An illustrated lecture by HLFM Director Pierce Rafferty on the history of Fishers Island’s ferries.
Sunday, August 24th Time: 4 p.m. Place: Union Chapel
From the first known visit of a passenger steamer to the Island in 1825 to the modern motor vessels of the mid-to late 20th century. Who knew that Boss Tweed’s former private steam yacht was used as a Fishers Island ferry in the 1880s? The talk complements the Museum’s 2014 exhibition “Coming and Going: A History of Transportation to Fishers Island.”
