Beginning late August the two juvenile osprey were rarely seen getting along on Middle Farms nest, as competition for fish – and the osprey nest became more regular occurrences.
The clips below capture some of the battles through the beginning of September. As the days are getting shorter, it is expected that the osprey will be migrating south soon.
AUGUST 19, 2022: As one osprey attempts to land on the nest, it is blocked by the sibling and flies away. It circles back and is able to land.
AUGUST 19, 2022: The osprey siblings defend the nest together in one of the rare sightings of them getting along.
AUGUST 23, 2022: One of the juvenile osprey attempts to chase a trespasser from Middle Farms nest but does not succeed.
AUGUST 23, 2022: The second attempt to chase the trespassing osprey from the nest is successful.
AUGUST 24, 2022: One of the juvenile osprey blocks its sibling from landing on the nest.
AUGUST 26, 2022: The juvenile osprey attacks the adult bringing fish to the nest. The fish subsequently flops out of the nest.
AUGUST 26, 2022: Both juveniles battle for nest a couple hours after the fish flopped out.
AUGUST 26, 2022: After being chased off the nest, one of the siblings returns during a feeding and grabs the fish.
AUGUST 27, 2022: In this clip one of the juvenile osprey follows the adult bringing fish to the nest, but the waiting sibling grabs the fish and flies off, leaving the other to fend for scraps.
AUGUST 27, 2022: Another battle for the nest between the siblings.
AUGUST 29, 2022: The juvenile osprey on the nest blocks another from landing, then briefly leaves (presumably to chase it further away) before returning to the nest.
SEPTEMBER 3, 2022: During this battle, the sibling is able to land but the other lifts off the right perch and chases it away. It then leaves briefly (presumably to chase it further away) and returns.
