March 20-21 ~ After previously reaching Virginia on March 18, Edwin remained in the state and continued to visit southern waterways including Lazaretto Creek, before heading to the Richmond area on March 21. He spent his list night in the state along Swift Creek Reservoir.

March 22 ~ Early in the morning Edwin resumed his trip north, crossing the border into Maryland, and then the Potomac River. He followed the Chesapeake Bay north and passed through the southern end of Pennsylvania. Around nightfall, he reached New Jersey and spent the night near Honey Lake outside of Princeton.
