A new program becomes a reality. Sarah Saint-Amand, along with Harbor School founder Murray Fisher, triggered the program. Sarah had enjoyed the Wednesday afternoon Museum programs and both she and Murray felt there was a need and enough demand to warrant a more extensive series of nature-related programs. The Museum immediately supported the idea and brought in the Denison Pequotsepos educators to join Murray and Museum staff member Emily Bodell as staff for “Fishers Island Nature Discovery” or FIND.

UPDATE: Museum’s FIND program switches to one week, now fully subscribed.

This August, the Museum will be offering a one-week long “Fishers Island Nature Discovery” program for children beginning on August 12th. The week-long program will run from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Monday through Friday. You can register your child or children for one week (no registration by the day). The program will be split into two age groups: ages 5 to 7 and 8 to 10.

We could not be more excited about the “FIND” program; which will be led by experienced nature educators who will share their knowledge and love of natural history with our youngest generation. The program leaders include educators from the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, Mystic, Conn., Murray Fisher, founder of the Harbor School and the Billion Oyster Project in New York City, and Emily Bodell, a Museum staff member who is the coordinator of the Fishers Island Seagrass Coalition.

This is a wonderful opportunity for young children to develop a love of nature and ecology through participatory learning both at the Museum and in the field. We hope that you will consider signing your child or children up.

The registration form has sign-up information, costs, and logistics. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Museum. You can call 631-788-7239 or e-mail the Museum to be put on the waiting list in case of cancellation. The form and payment will have to be received within one week of the initial contact to hold the spot.

The cost per Participant for the week is $300 to cover the expense of staff and materials.
